  • Deep Learning

Data visualization:

This workshop is designed to introduce the principles and techniques of data visualization. Participants will learn about the importance of effective data visualization in understanding and communicating complex information. The course will cover the basics of data visualization, including how to choose the right type of visualization for different data sets, how to design effective charts and graphs, and how to use colour, typography, and other visual elements to enhance the clarity and impact of visualizations. Participants will also explore best practices in data visualization, including how to avoid common mistakes and how to use visualizations to tell compelling stories that engage and inform audiences.

Introduction to Deep Learning:

In this workshop, the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and deep learning will be explored. The classic machine learning techniques, such as supervised and unsupervised classification will be examined, and different approaches to data pre-processing will be discussed. Also, convolutional networks, a popular technique for processing images and signals will be examined. By the end of the class, students will have a solid understanding of the basics of artificial intelligence and deep learning, as well as some advanced techniques.

Design and Measurement for Quantitative Research:

In this workshop on Design and Measurement for Quantitative Research, participants will learn how to develop a conceptual framework with an appropriate research protocol, design appropriate surveys, and implement effective measurement techniques. The workshop will cover the fundamental principles of quantitative research, including some introduction to statistical analysis. Additionally, the workshop will cover measurement concepts, including reliability and validity, and how to assess and improve the quality of data.

Ethics, Integrity, Open Research and Data Management:

This workshop provides information relating to Research Ethics so that researchers can learn about how their research can be conducted in an ethical manner and adhere to the principles of Research Integrity. The workshop discusses how Research Ethics is an active and ongoing process from conception of the research idea all the way through to dissemination and publication.

Finally, an overview of open research and how your research can be made more open in an ethical manner, with an “open as possible and closed as necessary” approach as per the FAIR Data Principles.

Introduction to Business Analytics:

This course aims to introduce business analytics and its role in business decision-making. To this purpose, we will begin by defining what business analytics is and how it helps organizations leverage data to gain insights and improve performance. Next, we will explore different types of analytics and their application in solving business problems and discuss why big data has fuelled the development of data analytics. Finally, we will describe the most frequent approaches to the lifecycle of a data analytics project and the different stages involved, including data preparation, modelling, and deployment.

Professional Development for Researchers:

This workshop explores professional development and career opportunities for postgraduate students and researchers. It develops knowledge and skills for learners to enhance their professional development and employability for their chosen career.

Qualitative Research:

The aim of this workshop is to develop attendee’s knowledge and understanding of a range of key areas relevant to qualitative research practice in Social Science disciplines at postgraduate level. This includes understanding what qualitative research is, exploring the main differences between quantitative and qualitative research, the role of the researcher who researches in context with participants, and exploration of a popular qualitative research methodology and data collection method.

Social Networks - Data Mining & Analysis:

In this workshop, participants will learn how to harness the power of Python for scraping, pre-processing, and analysing data from social networks. Gain hands-on experience in extracting valuable insights from social media platforms and discover how to turn raw data into meaningful information. Whether you’re a researcher, marketer, or data enthusiast, this workshop will equip you with the skills needed to navigate the ever-evolving world of social network data analysis.
