The Capacity Building Training of REMODEL for BUU academic and R&I staff have been on May 30th, 2023 with the topic of Academic and Scientific Writing.
Some learning outcomes of this workshop were:
- Efficiently use search engines and databases: gaining proficiency in using various search engines, databases, and platforms specific to scientific research
- Manage and organize references with reference management tools like Mendeley, Zotero
- General structure of a scientific article and specific structure of scientific paper based on a dataset
- Master techniques for crafting attention-grabbing manuscript titles that appeal to editors and readers
- Acquire techniques for clear, concise writing to enhance readability and impact
- Assess the main factors in choosing a journal and identifying potential journals for publishing
How to Select Journals to Publish
The aim of this workshop is to help researchers learn how to select the right journals to publish their research paper. Participants will learn about the factors to consider when selecting a journal, including the journal’s reach, its impact factor, and its editorial policies. They will also learn to identify potential journals that are a good fit for their research paper.
Participants will also learn about the importance of evaluating the quality of journals. The workshop will also cover current publishing trends, including the rise of preprint servers and open access options.
By the end of the workshop, participants will feel confident in their ability to navigate the publishing process and select the most appropriate journals for their research paper.
Searching Bibliography
This workshop is devoted to show the techniques and tricks for finding scientific information in the Internet. The workshop will address the main information sources as well as the searching strategies, including the use of general and particular search engines and the use of keywords and logic operators. The workshop has a hands-on approach, showing all the theoretical contents from a practical point of view, with an emphasis on real-life practices to help finding the most suitable documents for the pursued research objectives.
Tips on How to Write A Manuscript
This workshop provides a unique perspective on the process of publishing a scientific article, focusing on the viewpoint of an associate editor. Learn how to select a compelling title, create an engaging abstract, and understand the factors that associate editors consider when evaluating a manuscript for review. Gain insider tips on how to make your manuscript stand out, improving your chances of getting published in your desired journal.
Writing Scientific Papers with Datasets
This workshop aims to provide students with the tools to write a scientific article that utilizes real datasets across various fields. We will address how to create the structure and how to apply a scientific style to this type of article.
