REMODEL PROJECT CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING

MASTERCLASS - RESEARCH SUPERVISION

The training held on October 10 by Hugh Kearns, received significant interest. This masterclass was aimed at research supervisors at all stages of their supervisory career. It explored how both the supervisor and the student could maximize the benefits of the post-graduate research experience. Drawing from the facilitator’s extensive experience of working with thousands of research students and supervisors worldwide, the session also provided an opportunity for supervisors to share their own insights on what worked and what didn’t.

Focus Areas of the masterclass were:
• Dealing with different types of students
• Getting students to write
• Getting students to show you their writing
• Giving constructive feedback
• Students who write too much
• Students for whom English is not their first language
• Motivating stalled students
• Problem situations
